The Riede rises as a flat ridge from Höflein westwards to the beginning of the Ellender forest above. The underground of the vineyards is made up of mainly sandy, sometimes silty-clay sediments from the Miocene. In the south-east and north-west section they are overlaid with some loess. The soils are deep and calcareous. Due to the cool influences of the forest above, the wines retain their freshness and spice despite the heated soils and the warm Pannonian influence of the climate.
